Matia Island Series

The Matia Island Series (2014)is based on the life of Elvin H. Smith, a telepathic hermit who lived on a remote island off the coast of Washington State for 30 years. In 1892, Smith settled on the small island known as Matia in the San Juan archipelago. He squatted on Matia (The Homestead Act was never applied to the island), rarely seeing other people. Over time, Smith became known for his telepathic powers, which he believed could cure illness, alcoholism, and unhappiness, all remotely by mail, from the island.
