pier 17: space #2085 divided into cubic yards
2006

mason twine
South Street Seaport mall : sponsored by the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council

The Lower Manhattan Cultural Council gave me a grant and a space for 3 months. The space was a 3,000 square foot former Modell's sporting goods store in a mall in the South Street Seaport in Lower Manhattan.

I decided to divide it into cubic yards using mason twine. It took forever to figure out how to do this. We began by measuring the space exactly and starting in one corner.

I left everything exactly how it was in the space before I got there, so that the lines made way for tables, chairs, garbage, a ladder.

It took about three months to divide the space, working about 3 days a week with 3-4 people helping.

a lot of people came to the opening. most people stayed in one main area because it was hard to move around the space.
